This free set of 5 film filter Actions for Photoshop was created by the super talented Mike Moloney from FilterGrade. With these Actions, you can quickly and easily give your photos a really nice analog feel. They’re perfect for projects in which you’re trying to create a retro vibe and will save you a ton of time when it comes to editing your images.
How to use the Actions
Loading the Actions
Go to the Actions panel (Window > Actions), open the Actions panel menu, select Load Actions, then open the file called ‘Film Filters by FilterGrade’.
Applying the filters
Open the photo you would like to apply a filter to (File > Open).
Go the Actions panel, select the filter you would like to apply, then click the play button.
Your chosen film filter will instantly be applied.
If you’re not sure which film filter you would like to use, you can use the Play All Action to apply all of the filters to your photo at the same time. Initially, each of the filters will be hidden, but you can quickly preview them by toggling their visibility in the Layers panel (Window > Layers).
You can even combine filters by showing them at the same time.
Customizing the filters
Each filter is essentially a group of adjustment layers combined to create a particular effect. By editing the adjustment layers, you can edit the overall appearance of the filter.
